Dr. Shahrzad Daneshvar, a Canadian and American board-certified specialist in Periodontics, earned her dental degree in 2010 from the National University of Iran. After practicing dentistry for two years, her interest in intra-oral surgeries and treating gum disease led her to pursue her education further in Canada. She completed an intensive three-year surgical speciality residency at Dalhousie University, where she received her Master of Dentistry in Periodontics degree specializing in Periodontology in 2015.
Dr. Daneshvar practices the full scope of Periodontology and Implant Surgery, including: Comprehensive periodontal care (treatment and management of periodontal disease/gum disease), dental implants, pre-prosthetic surgeries (sinus lift and ridge augmentation; bone grafting of the jaws to support implant treatment), mucogingival and periodontal plastic surgeries (gum grafts for gum recession treatment), gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, crown lengthening and frenectomy, guided bone and tissue regeneration, exposure of impacted teeth to facilitate orthodontic treatment, diagnosis (including biopsies) and treatment of oral pathology, periodontic-endodontic involved considerations, temporomandibular joint disorders treatment, and, anxiety and pain management with the help of conscious sedation administration.
Her passion for periodontics and implantology was not limited to the clinic. In 2015, her last year of residency, she was awarded first place in the senior clinical research category in Canada in 2015 and was the Hatton winner for the International Association of Dental Research for her clinical research related to dental implant outcomes at Dalhousie Dental Clinic (1999-2012). Upon completion of her training, she remained at Dalhousie University as a part-time faculty member with the title clinical instructor and lecturer. In 2018, she received an award from Dalhousie University recognizing her excellence in teaching.
Dr. Daneshvar has lectured nationally and internationally. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCD(C)) and a member of Atlantic Society of Periodontology, Nova Scotia Dental Association, Canadian Academy of Periodontology, Shore Shore Dental Society, and American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Daneshvar’s main professional goal is to provide excellent patient-specific periodontal and implant treatment according to the very highest standards of care while maintaining her knowledge and skills updated through continuous education.In addition to a busy practice schedule, Dr. Daneshvar enjoys teaching in the graduate periodontal program at Dalhousie University, Faculty of Dentistry.
Out of the office, she enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming, and spending time with her dog and friends.
